Handball managers from 11 countries study at Cologne’s German Sport University
17 participants from 11 countries and four continents have been studying because July 2018, aiming to complete the Handball Manager certification course in May next year.
What is the attendance stage at the German Sport University Cologne, this week‘s focus will be on sports principles and mathematics of sports legislation, which is taught by well-known and seasoned speakers from both practice and academia.
The European Handball Manager study programme’s reputation, which is conducted in collaboration between the college and the European Handball Federation, has spread globally after three years. Handball supervisors in the USA, for the first time, Japan and Australia are currently taking part, analyzing for one year.
The participants have been preparing for its attendance stage since July 2018, with the focus on sports economics and sports law issues.
One of the well-known speakers from science and practice are Dr Tim Pawlowski, Professor of Sports Economics at the University of Tübingen; Martin Hausleiter, Secretary General of the European Handball Federation; Stefan Ludwig, Partner at the consulting firm Deloitte and former Managing Director of DFB Wirtschaftsdienste GmbH; and Carlos Prieto Martos, former handball professional and winner of the Champions League in 1998, 1999 and 2006.
Head of the programme Stefan Walzel is excited about hearing in the legal experts from law firm Heuking Kühn Lüer Wojtek, with whom a close partnership was agreed in 2017: “The experience and expertise that these attorneys have in sports, and pass to the participants, is priceless. The speakers will prepare the participants scripts that are tailor-made. ”
Following an intensive week in Cologne, the participants will continue with several weeks of eLearning and self-study before all match in the next week of January in Berlin to complete the next of a total of three attendance periods. In addition to this trip at the opening game of the World Championship 2019, discussions and talks with renowned representatives of handball are planned.
