While a number of driving mistakes emphasized the pressure that Vettel was under, Clear thinks that the German will utilize the expertise to make himself better in 2019.
“The fact is drivers of his calibre enjoy the pressure,” said Clear. That’s a part of the job.
“I think he has appreciated the season. There were highs and lows.
We have all done our part this year.
“I believe from Seb’s point of view it just gives him more power to return and say’that is unfinished business’.”
Clear claims that one of the lessons learned this year is the demand for the group to do throughout the whole season, while Ferrari was disappointed to have missed out on the title.
“It’s been a fantastic battle and that is why we do this sport,” he explained. “It’s seasons such as this which you just relish,
“Obviously when you are on the wrong end of this, it is frustrating. But we have not actually looked back at exactly what point, as you put it, things slipped away from us.
“The simple fact is that a season is season and also the points we score in Abu Dhabi are just as critical as the points you score in Australia, and also to win a championship you want to gather a complete season and we have not done as good a job in that respect as our direct competitors and we all know of that.
“We look back on the season, we look at the strengths of what’s probably the strongest Ferrari year for 10 years and we build on these strengths.
“I believe the win at Austin is a testament to the fact that the team does return and does fight back and we did know some of the issues we uncovered in the next third of the year.”
