Chasing 174 from 17 overs, India needed 13 over but Marcus Stoinis took two wickets to seal victory by four runs.
Shikhar Dhawan struck 76 and Dinesh Karthik 30 however India fell short.
Dhawan innings had given hope within their hard chase to the tourists but when he fell with the score 105-4, Australia were favourites.

India made themselves favourites using a 14th over.
That required the runs to 35 from three overs.
A four by the final chunk by Karthik abandoned the match in the equilibrium together with one and was caught at point although From the 16th over, Pant attempted to scoop Tye over man.
Crucially new batsman Krunal Pandya was on attack and he missed the second and was caught by a Maxwell on the third shipping, after scrambling a two of the chunk.
With 11 runs needed to win from the final 3 balls Karthik had little option but to attempt to hit a border but he holed second ball as Australia held out.
