The Argentinian has forced his way into Pochettino’s side in recent weeks, beginning the previous three Premier League games, but will miss the crunch Champions League clash with Inter Milan on Wednesday because he is not included at the club’s 25-man team.
Spurs’ inability to move their foreign players outside subsequently meant they needed to target not to sign anyone during the summer .
Pochettino said: “I’m so disappointed by the beginning because it’s not only him Georges-Kevin N’Koudou and Vincent Janssen are outside of the squad at the Champions League and that’s overly painful.
“It’s overly painful. It’s a error that we made that in this level of football we cannot repeat again. For reasons we have to find solutions before the onset of the season.
“I was so disappointed because the squad was so big and when the people today say, ‘You’re the only club that doesn’t sign any players’, to signal another player means to place out another player from the list for the Champions League.
“I told you need players that are English, but it was impossible. Obviously now so painful to have players from the list.
