Vance Joseph seasoned Baker Mayfield’s enormous arm and intelligence First Hand in January at the Senior Bowl.
ENGLEWOOD, Colo. — There were five quarterbacks selected at the first round of last April’s draft, also on Saturday nightthat the Denver Broncos will face the top pick from the Cleveland Browns‘ Baker Mayfield.
When Mayfield’s match is broken down by the Broncos, there’ll be a lot of things — a lot of cries, plenty of how Mayfield in and out functions of the pocket — that’ll look familiar.
Denver’s decision-makers spent plenty of time across Mayfield before the Browns did. After last season’s 5-11 finish, the Broncos staff — as head coach Vance Joseph was replacing a few supporters — left its way to Mobile, Alabama, in January to guide the North team, which comprised Mayfield, at the Senior Bowl.
“Very sure, of course, he’s a success “
The Broncos have faced Rosen at Week 7 — a 34-16 Jets success — and Darnold at Week 5 — an 45-10 Broncos win.
“That procedure, particularly with quarterbacks, there’s no wonder it will help when you’re looking at the players,” Broncos president of football operations/general manager John Elway put it. “You see them focus with the area, however in the meeting chambers together with these, but get to know them as people. You can observe how they handle information and the way they deal with people. Then you observe how they take most of that to the area.”
And at that regard, Mayfield wear quite a show that week in January. He was the most comfortable running.
Joseph and his staff gave Mayfield high marks for how he took what the coaches choose to go over in the meetings and put it into actions within the practice discipline. Of the quarterbacks on the North and South teams, Mayfield revealed the most consistency with the widest range of cries.
Some thing Joseph said was conspicuous Monday morning when he dove with the Browns’ offense.
“He had great arm ability,” Joseph said of Mayfield. “To get a more compact quarterback, he’s got a big arm, he plays with that. I watched some of his games [Monday] he’s playing really well right now, he’s comfortable, he’s got a roster around him, this roster is filled. …[Rookie running back Nick] Chubb is playing out of his own mind. He’s got some weapons around him and he’s having fun with great confidence at the moment.”
Mayfield has started the past ten games for its 5-7-1 Browns, also operated throughout the team’s changes in mind coach and offensive coordinator, when Hue Jackson and Todd Haley were terminated before Halloween. Defensive coordinator Gregg Williams has been named the Browns interim head coach and Freddie Kitchens was promoted to offensive coordinator.
As Kitchens has put Mayfield loose the Browns are 3-2 in those five games. Mayfield has completed 73 per cent of his passes from the five games that Kitchens has predicted plays and thrown 11 touchdown passes to proceed with four interceptions.
Mayfield may possibly have needed his most accurate day as a pro Sunday, when he finished Cleveland’s victory within the Carolina Panthers by completing 18 of 22 passes for 238 yards and a touchdown. Of the four incompletions in the match, video showed three were drops by Browns receivers.
That is currently trending the wrong method for the Broncos’ defense, which has surrendered five 300-yard death games this year. Four of these came to three of the league’s marquee passers — Patrick Mahomes (twice), Philip Rivers along with Ben Roethlisberger — to proceed with Sunday’s 332 yards by the 49ers’ Nick Mullens.
, a three-time Pro Bowl selection who suffered a fractured fibula at Cincinnati, along with his replacement, newcomer Isaac Yiadom, suffered a separated right shoulder at losing to the 49ers. Cornerback Tramaine Brock is still a question mark having a rib injury that has kept him out of the past two games.
That’s all on the docket for the Broncos as they get re introduced to Mayfield. Asked if he is at all surprised at how quickly Mayfield has acclimated himself to the task of franchise quarterback, Joseph explained just:
“Not at all, he had been very, very sharp by a soccer standpoint, however, his arm talent has been special, really special.”
