Cristiano Ronaldo says he was disappointed not to win the Ballon d’Or and claimed the”numbers do not lie” after being beaten to the award by Luka Modric.
The 33-year-old, that joined Juventus in the summer for a fee in the area of 105m, finished second in the voting behind his former Real Madrid team-mate.
Ronaldo picked up the trophy at 2017 and 2016, also has won the award five times , the same as Barcelona forward Lionel Messi.
After serving Real Madrid win the Champions League last year and guiding Croatia to the World Cup last in the summertime however, Modric was named the winner of this year, however, Ronaldo believes that he deserved to win it now for a sixth time.
“Of course I’m disappointed, but life goes on and I will continue to work hard,” he told the press.
“Over the pitch I have done everything to win the Ballon d’Or, figures do not lie, but I am not as happy if I don’t win, but I’ve got amazing friends and a familyI play in one of the best clubs.
“Congratulations to Modric, that has made the awardwinning, but the next year we’ll meet again and that I will do everything to win the decoration.
“Would you believe I’m going home and yelling?”
Ronaldo has scored 11 goals in all competitions this season bringing his career total.
