Former Scotland captain Darren Fletcher says he’s received verbal abuse from supporters of his ulcerative colitis.
Stoke midfielder Fletcher, 34, had charms from football for treatment.
“I’ve had fans, away fans, singing on my illness,” said Fletcher, who’s won 80 Scotland caps.
“Derogatory and chanting items, entire segments of away fans to perform an illness I’d.
“My family have been required to sit and experience that. I’ve had to restrain myself.”
Footballers being mistreated by fans was in the news this week after alleged racist abuse of Manchester City and England’s Raheem Sterling.
On Saturday, authorities in Scotland detained two fans for allegedly directing racial abuse at Motherwell replacement Christian Mbulu throughout his side’s defeat Hearts.
