KANSAS CITY, Mo. — The Los Angeles Chargers hurried back from 14 points down to defeat the Kansas City Chiefs 29-28 in Arrowhead Stadium on Thursday night.

The Chargers snapped a nine-game losing streak to the Chiefs and clinched a trip to the playoffs for the first time since 2013 with all the hit.

“This place is unbelievable to play in; hard, tough,” Chargers quarterback Philip Rivers said. “We lost a couple in arow. I tried to deny it all week, and state what you may need to say, but this team kept fighting”

With the triumph, the Chargers are still in contention for the AFC’s top seed and improved to 11-3. They’re now tied with the Chiefs for its best record in the seminar but would require the Chiefs to lose another game because K.C. holds the tiebreaker.

Down seven with under three minutes remaining, the Chargers marched 60 yards on eight matches, punctuated by a 1-yard pass on a fade route to second year pro Mike Williams. Rather than kicking the extra point Chargers coach Anthony Lynn proceeded for just two on the road and left a gutsy call.

Lynn was rewarded when Williams popped up since Kansas City’s defenders did not guard him. Williams corralled Rivers’ pass. According to NFL nextgen Stats, the nearest Chiefs defender was 10.6 yards away when Williams caught the TwoPoint conversion.

“The touchdown to Mike, our first touch down was the exact same drama,” Rivers said. “We dressed up it a bit, put Travis around, put all three recipients on the market, motioned Travis and hoped they wouldn’t recognize it. And, they broke a coverage”

The last time that the Chargers beat the Chiefs in Kansas City has been a 41-38 victory on Nov. 24, 2013.

The Chargers could acquire the AFC West for the first time since 2009 should they win out and Kansas City loses next week against the Seattle Seahawks or in the team’s season finale at home against the Oakland Raiders.

“This merely means we are in the championship,” Rivers said. “we all understand we have a very long way to go, nonetheless it’s only wonderful to take. It’s been around a long time.”

The Chargers played back Melvin Gordon, who missed his third consecutive game with a sprained knee. They had to proceed forwards without Keenan Allen, who had a hip injury in the first half and didn’t go back.

Together with those two players outside, Williams stepped up, finishing with seven receptions for 76 yards and two touchdown catches. Williams had a 19-yard touch down run in the next half.

Williams became the first wide receiver for the Chargers with a rushing and receiving touchdown in exactly the exact same game since Tim Dwight on Oct. 1-3, 2002. That also came per Information & ESPN Stats.

The remainder of the NFL is 3-78.
