The Rangers could actually land a considerable free agent starter for their rotation, as they announced Tuesday they have signed right-hander Lance Lynn to some three-year contract. The deal is for $30 million, according to sources.

The deal is just like the three-year, $28 million contract awarded to Mike Minor past off season.

Lynn, 31, have been among the Rangers’ goals at the Winter Meetings in vegas. He unites in giving the Rangers two veteran pitchers to the surface of the rotation, lefthander Minor. The Rangers had been in the hunt for lefthander J.A. Happ, that signed up with the Yankees, and right-hander Charlie Morton, that agreed to your two-year deal with the Rays.

“You look at the team and there exists plenty of young, upandcoming players and guys who’ve done a lot in this game on the team today. There is a great deal going on here that are advantages, and that I just want to come in and keep pushing us in the ideal direction.”

The Rangers’ requirement for pitching is well known, and Lynn likely won’t be the final move of the club. The Rangers have the flexibility to incorporate more than one free-agent pitcher.

Lynn was a free agent last winter, but didn’t sign until March 12 with the Twins. He agreed to a deal, but the wait and Spring Training that was short may possibly have paid off his effectiveness after productive seasons in the Cardinals’ rotation.

He was also entering his 2nd season. However he struggled with the Twins, going 7 8 with a 5.10 ERA and a 1.63 WHIP in 20 starts.

Even the Twins traded Lynn to the Yankees on July 30, and the change of scenery did . He went 3-2 with a 4.14 ERA and a 1.33 WHIP in nine starts and two relief appearances to ny. Within his final four outings, he was 2-0 with a 2.37 ERA, striking out 17 and walking just four in 19 innings.

“I probably do scatter this around finally getting through the season 5 after getting Tommy John… I am getting in my early 30s today, therefore maybe the old man strength should come ,” Lynn stated. “I feel strong, and it’s been a little while since I felt that way. I presume you saw this.

Also significant is that throughout Lynn’s period with the Twins, he dropped 8.8 strike-outs along with 5.5 walks per nine innings. After visiting the Yankees, he improved at both areas with 10.1 strike-outs along with 2.3 walks per nine innings.

“We consider his background as a very consistent, durable, winning celebrity on a Major League stage,” Rangers general manager Jon Daniels said. “Look what he did this past year in the circumstance he really didn’t have a conventional offseason or Spring Training, as soon as he settled in and left a tiny adjustment Mid Season he became very effective here in the American League.”

The Cardinals originally took lynn with the 39th overall pick from the 2008 Draft out of the University of Mississippi. Before moving in to the rotation in 2012, he was used mainly as a reliever in 2011. Overall, he left 16-1 starts and 22 relief appearances for the Cardinals throughout his period in St. Louis, going 72-47 with a 3.38 ERA.

“It’s a tremendous boost to your group,” new Rangers manager Chris Woodward stated. “Obviously they would like to go out and win games, and also this move type of caked that towards the top of the rotation. We’ve got some very fantastic arms at the very best, and out of an offensive perspective we view it as those guys are gonna get outs for all of us now and we’re gonna move. It’s really a huge boost for many of us only understanding that we’re gonna shove this thing forward, and Lance will be quite a significant part of it.”

The Rangers also provide right-hander Edinson Volquez along with lefthander Drew Smyly, two veteran pitchers that are coming off Tommy John surgery. This season was not pitched by volquez, while coping with the operation and Smyly has just missed 2 yrs.
