He plans to perform exactly the same in following Sunday’s Regular Season finale against the Detroit Lions in Lambeau Field, that is equally as meaningless as Sunday’s Week 16 game against the Ny Jets.
And now it’s obvious how he’ll play.
The two wheeled MVP quarterback, in the midst of perhaps the poorest season of the NFL career, played with the same sort of power and fire he revealed in the regular season opener when everything was on the line. He did exactly the same with nothing at stake but for the shame that will have come had the Packers lost for the eighth time in as many road games that season.
But thanks to this cue out of their quarter back, the Packers avoided the primary winless street season since 1958 and hauled off a thrilling — even when immaterial — 44-38 overtime win at MetLife Stadium.
“That is that he could be,” Rodgers’ centre, Corey Linsley, ” said. “It is in his character”
And it wasn’t a surprise.
“That is why he is that is,” Linsley added. “For him to accomplish this, all of us are putting our bodies on the line, but I think there is an overall sense that maybe the star quarter back shouldn’t try so or thathe doesn’t. He combats his bum off. I do not know if there is an understanding of anything, however, he does not fulfill that.”
It was all about direction, ” he explained.
Still, Rodgers may have sat in the pocketand if things did not grow, throw away the ball. Why put his body in danger after a season that has been affected by the Week inch left knee injury and past Sunday’s pulled groin?
Yet there was Rodgers putting on perhaps his best running performance of this season. He ran to get a pair of touchdowns — and had a third that would have won the game overtime called back with a penalty. This was the second two-rushing-touchdown game of his career and also his first game with one on the ground in almost two years. He ran in a TwoPoint conversion.
Subsequently, Rodgers simply said he desired to show everybody else”it things .”
“That when the album isn’t great and you’re not planning to the play offs, which it still matters,” Rodgers said. “I’ve got a great deal of pride. I like competing — in anything. As I mentioned on the field after the game, ” I don’t want to check in 20 years and wonder,’What should I played with that game? Can something special have happened?’ What can it look like to my team mates should they knew I kind of quit on them? I am hoping my team mates know I’m never going to quit . I’m going to fight whatever I’ve got.”
It became infectious.
There was defensive back Tramon Williams straight back in the game after getting clocked on a punt return by a illegal hit that sent him to the locker room to get stitches above his eye.
And left handle David Bakhtiari, that finished the game despite an injury to his leg trying to chase down an interception return on a TwoPoint conversion — a play which was filtered from penalty.
And Davante Adams, that caught 11 passes, for example, winning 16-yard touchdown in overtime that pushed his own grab total for that season to 111 — one short of Sterling Sharpe’s single-season club record.
“I told the people before the game, this will undoubtedly become a character game,” said Rodgers, who pulled for 442 yards and 2 touchdowns on 37-of-55 passing. “It is going to show what kind of pride that people have, what kind of psychological strength we have and what we’re prepared to lay on the line for our team mates. Apparently, those guys put it on the line and played really well.”
It was Rodgers’ seventh triumph in a game by which he trailed by 14 or more points from the fourth quarter since 2012. No additional quarterback has more.
“It things for pride, it things for Joe,” Rodgers said. “We love Joe. We wish to play for Joe and give him the best opportunity potential. And it things for direction purposes. Again, what sort of leader could I be if,’I might probably play maybe I will shut it down until next year.’ This is the type of competitor I am. I’d like to get my own body on the line because of my own mates and also let them know that I wish to be out there, which it things, which their presence on the field things, too. They saw this weekthey found now they watched them battle. Maybe that sticks with them and means something farther down the line when we desire it.”
The Packers needed it out of Rodgers following of the special teams miscues — among those the Jets’ 99-yard kick off return to get a touchdown from Andre Roberts, a 51-yard return by Roberts, a fake-punt conversion and a fumbled kickoff return by J’Mon Moore.
“I’ve got another week in me,” Rodgers said.
He might not be the only one.
“Like I say, when 12 is out there, I’m out there,” Bakhtiari said briefly before he hobbled from this lockerroom.
