LAKE FOREST, Ill. — Chicago Bears coach Matt Nagy said he’s “cautiously optimistic” that ideal guard Kyle Long should turn off injured reserve and play again this year, not as early as Sunday’s regular season finale at Minnesota, or at the postseason, where in fact the Bears now contain the No. 3 seed from the NFC.
Long was set on injured reserve with a ideal foot injury on Nov. 3, making him eligible to return against the Vikings in Week 17. The Bears will also be –presently — scheduled to sponsor a playoff game the following week, however a victory on the Vikings and also a Rams loss to the 49ers would give the Bears a first-round bye and also the occasion to sponsor the Divisional round at Soldier Field.
“Last week he had that good Friday [practice], now this week he could jump back in and carry on to get better and improved,” Nagy said on Wednesday. ”
Nagy later added: “I think there’so possibility [that Long plays again this year] for sure, absolutely. ”
Long has lots of motivation to go back.
“I’ve never been a part of [the playoffs],” Long said on Wednesday. “And I know how hard this team has functioned since Day One. The first meeting was that the afternoon I got my Ed Block Courage Award. Also it’therefore kind of ironic that now I have the chance to return and help my team. Theyrsquo;ve been supportive. And I would like to complete my part. I’m just one of 11 guys on crime. And that I ’m trying to not be the one of 1 1 who’s not doing his position. ”
Regrettably, Long isn’t any stranger to injuries.
Long suffered a grisly ankle injury in 20-16 that cost him the final eight games that year and the first two games of the 2017 season.
This past yr, Long missed six games altogether with many different ailments. Long underwent neck, shoulder and elbow surgeries at the offseason, but he returned in time to start that the Bears’ first seven games this year.
But there’SA chance to end this year on a positive note.
“The way I’ve been preparing for the last eight weeks is, every week, prepare yourself if I’m likely to playwith, ” Long explained. “You never know which club you’re planning to see again and again you won’t ever know what bit of data you know at a meeting will pay dividends later on. Having a chance this week to possibly play and using prepared for Minnesota, I find comfort in the truth I’ve prepared for this team before, by a mental perspective, and I look forward to this week. ”
