BEREA, Ohio — Baker Mayfield declared he awakened down former coach Hue Jackson throughout Sunday’s win over Cincinnati, but he had been perplexed anybody would care.
Mayfield said players contribute in various ways.
“I’m not wanting to be anyone else. I’ve been who I am. That has gotten me here. And I’m going to keep doing this since I try and enhance weekly and that I have that same mindset.
“So, that’s why I said a few weeks ago [that] I’m not hoping to find anyone’s approval. I’m attempting to acquire football match and perform so for as long as I could. That is the goal. And the inventors inside this room understand . They understand I would fight for them. They understand I would get a bullet for them. For me, that’s what things.
“I don’t have to create any friends out of this room. I’m not hoping to accomplish that. Once they’re in here, they know just what they’re gonna get. And that’s what really matters”
Mayfield said he had been asked at the combine if the way he carried himself onto the field pushed limits and may be misperceived. He explained any similar questions now bring the exact same answer:”Not 1 bit”
“I’m not wanting to be anyone else. I’ve been who I am. That has gotten me here. And I’m going to keep doing this since I try and enhance weekly and that I have that same mindset. … I actually don’t have to create any friends out of this room. I’m not hoping to accomplish that. Once they’re in here, they know just what they’re gonna get. And that’s what really matters”
Mayfield also said he did not recall yet another gesture after his touchdown pass into Darren Fells. He hurried to the side line and made an apparent lewd gesture toward attacking coordinator Freddie Kitchens.
“I couldn’t tell ,” Mayfield said. “I actually don’t know. We have a lot of stuff inside the locker space, what we have going on at the offense. Majority of inside jokes. Who knows what it was?”
The gesture probably wasn’t meant for the general public. But the fact in Mayfield’s universe is that cameras may accompany him throughout matches, notably if he throws a touchdown.
Cameras followed Mayfield closely since he stared down Jackson at the final minutes. After a very long completion to David Njoku, Mayfield ran over the Ben-Gals sideline, saw Jackson — now an assistant in Cincinnati — and awakened him as he conducted. Mayfield continued staring Jackson since the quarter back sidestepped into the center of the area, where he spun and then backpedaled while staring.
“I actually don’t comprehend why people have a issue with football being a competitive sport,” Mayfield said. “You are supposed to play with emotion, so you are supposed to play passion. Quite honestly, if you don’t like it, then anything. Football isn’t supposed to be described as a soft match. Could care less”
Interim coach Gregg Williams stated any talks he has players stay confidential.
“We go on the border, we play the border,” Williams stated. “But we don’t hurt the team”
“He attracts a great deal of fantastic stuff to the table”
Baltimore can clinch a playoff spot with a win on Sunday. Even the Browns are attempting to finish with six wins at the final seven matches, which would put them over .500 to get annually for the first time since 2007.
“They are fighting for a playoff spot,” Mayfield said,”and we’re fighting to prove who we are.”
The Ravens had the same chance at the summer finale last season, but threw in the towel a lastminute, fourth down touch down pass into the Bengals and so were knocked out.
“it is a great deal of motivation,” Mayfield said of sending the Ravens home. “Plus it isn’t merely about these, it’s all about us winning and going from a higher note. Despite the fact that the playoffs have been out of reach, it’s around us and that’s what it has always been around. This is the motivation, the genuine motivation. Caring for your the business. Ensuring that everybody knows that’s the norm around here.
“I continue talking about setting the conventional, and winning would be that standard. That is the target Sunday.”
