Paul Pogba”is happy now” after returning to goalscoring form for Manchester United, says interim boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.
The midfielder – who had a fractured connection with previous boss Jose Mourinho – scored twice in Wednesday’s 3-1 home win over Huddersfield.
“I had been pleased for him and the whole team. He loves football and also has a big smile,” said the new director.
Pogba was engaged with four goals in two games under Solskjaer – the identical level as in his final 1-2 Premier League games under Mourinho until his sacking. The World Cup winner just played 15 minutes in the Portuguese’s final three games accountable.
Former United reserve team director Solskjaer worked with Pogba during the Frenchman’s first bout in Old Trafford.
“That is the Paul I have known since he had been at the reserves and youth team,” said that the United legend.
“He’s been happy boy, a big smile on his head when you score two you’re glad. It’s really a reply and Paul loves playing for this bar. He is a Manchester United boy through and knows what it means to play for the club”
Norwegian Solskjaer played for United for the majority of his career, from 1996 to 2007, and has came back from Molde to handle the side until the close of the season.
“It’s humbling knowing I am leading this team out,” he told BBC Sport after his home debut accountable.
“Let us see if I become accustomed to it. I captained a couple of games but that is very different. They really are the best fans on earth. I’d such a great association with them.
“It had been special hearing that the audience singing my song. It makes you really proud – along with my family – plus it’s really a day I will always remember.
“I had been surprisingly calm daily. The lads have helped me to settle in really quickly.”
Solskjaer says he has changed the mindset of United’s players. A method perceived as negative under Mourinho had been heavily criticised.
“that you don’t change anything in one week but the mindset,” explained Solskjaer.
“I want my team to play in a certain way and you give them little pointers plus it has really a work in progress. It will require some time and I have done a little bit of a tweak although it is going to improve as time continues.”
Forwards Alexis Sanchez, Romelu Lukaku and Anthony Martial may all return for Sunday’s game against Bournemouth.
Lukaku was around compassionate leave, Martial was ailing for the Terriers game and Sanchez has missed six games with a hamstring issue.
“It’s perhaps maybe not just really a negative front three to come in and knock on the door,” explained Solskjaer. “It will be great to get back them. Maybe we’ll change three.
“Alexis has received just two weeks of great exercise center work . He could be go for Bournemouth, but will absolutely be included at Newcastle [next Wednesday].”
‘It looked as though the shackles were away’
“He has received a really unsatisfactory, horrible last 18 months at the club on account of the fall out with the director, however it looked as though the shackles had been away.
“He played with that’anything is possible’ kind of attitude, having fun with arrogance, the departure was straight back to his best.
“He is the greatest player in the club, for me personally, and may be a 12-15 goal a season person – he has not been that in his own career so far, however he is.
“I think they would’ve lost him (in January), the relationship (with Mourinho) has been gone. He had been sat on the bench, in the last number of games he has played “
Neville also said Mourinho didn’t understand that the”civilization” of both Manchester United.
“United is all in regards to the individuality – that the young kids coming – and also at the ending of the game it had been Marcus Rashford, Jesse Lingard, Paul Pogba, Angel Gomes that have been front ,” added Neville.
“That’s Manchester United and the civilization and somebody else enjoy Ole Gunnar Solskjaer knows what the club is about.
“In the last 6 months that the civilization was being lost and beginning to acquire damaged. No kiddies were getting through, the enjoyment had opted from the games and also the director and when they lacked aims, the change had to come.
“When you play for Manchester United you discuss freedom of expression, going around and having fun with a smile on your head and it begins with the manager. Ole was very happy and saying the correct things”
