Auston Matthews was Appointed a All Star captain to the first time on Thursday.

The Toronto Maple Leafs center will direct the Atlantic Division from the Jan. 26 occasion in San Jose. Fan vote chose four captains.

Edmonton Oilers center Connor McDavid was named the Pacific Division captain for the 3rd straight year. Washington Capitals ahead Alex Ovechkin will captain the Metropolitan Division for its second consecutive year.

Colorado Avalanche center Nathan MacKinnon joins Matthews like a First Time captain, resulting in the Central Division.

Matthews has made the all star Game in three seasons he has playedwith.

Ovechkin will be making his eighth All-Star overall look. The 33-year-old direct the league with 29 goals.

McDavid is fourth in the NHL with 52 points after leading the league in scoring the last two seasons.

MacKinnon will play with his third all star Game. His 56 points are great for third in the league. Last week , he finished second in voting for the Hart Trophy behind Taylor Hall.

The NHL Hockey Operations Department will decide on the remaining players for every single roster.

The format will follow past season’s with a four-team, 3-on-3 single elimination tournament.

The all star Skills Competition will occur Jan. 25.
