The skirmish happened from the fourth quarter after Antetokounmpo drove into the basket and was knocked down from Kanter, although no foul was called. Antetokounmpo ran straight back up the court and proceeded face-to-face with Kanter, before both were quickly separated.
After a review, each player was called for a technical foul, then Kanter was needed a second, leading to an automatic ejection with 9:56 left.
Kanter, that was struck near his eye using a Thon Maker elbow over the last play at the other end and eventually required three stitches, said he didn’t understand he had been ejected till strangers told him after the match.
“I took the ball and I had been attempting to go get the rebound, offensive rebound,” Kanter said. And on the other hand, I presume Giannis was pushing the jar, and I stopped him. They didn’t also call a foul. And then we simply got to it a bit.
“And my eye was bleeding and they said,’you will want stitches.’ I went from the rear, and the doctor just gave me three stitches. Now you guys are telling me I’ve ejected.”
Referee Brian Forte said there have been just two situations that led to Kanter’s ejection.
“Following the out of bounds foul, Giannis and Kanter came face-to-face, and so these were assessed dead ball technical fouls.”
With half a quarter to play with and the Knicks within 91-82,” Antetokounmpo said it was crucial he remain from the match.
“At the end of the afternoon, I must assist my team and shut the match,” explained Antetokounmpo, that had 31 points and 14 rebounds. “We had like eight or nine minutes , and I was just thinking about closing out the match. I do not enjoy that”
During the altercation, Bucks assistant trainer Darvin Ham came between Kanter and Antetokounmpo because the 2 players were being separated in mid-court.
Subsequent to the match, Knicks’s participation attracted the ire of both Knicks star Kristaps Porzingis, who also said he didn’t enjoy watching an opposing team’s trainer grab his team mate out of behind.
“This was a few bs to-night!!!” Porzingis posted on an Instagram story. “And that bucks assistant trainer should sit his butt down before grabbing Enes such as that. Grab your players maybe not the opp. Team”
The Bucks, who got their sixth win in seven matches, spanned the home-and-home show, having won New York 109-95 on xmas.
