Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp said it’d be”mad” to your club’s fans never to be enjoying their nine-point lead in the Premier League – but played his side’s title chances.

The Reds beat Arsenal 5-1 at Anfield on Saturday to move further apparent.

“I am not the cleverest man in the world however I am really not an idiot – not always at least,” Klopp said.

“It’s not important how many points you’re beforehand in December – even if it’s the end of December.”

Liverpool were helped by second-placed Tottenham’s home defeat by natives, in front of a hat trick from Roberto Firmino and goals from sadiomane and Mohamed Salah gave them victory over Spurs’ north London rivals.

The Reds are pursuing a 19th English top-flight name but their first since 1990.

“We came into season and when we all could qualify for the Champions League it’d be glorious,” Klopp said. “Can I feel that is done? No.”

But the German recognized that”if the fans aren’t at a fantastic moment it’d be mad”.

“Perhaps New Year’s Eve is likely to be somewhat louder – not too loudly, but my dog does not like it. Enjoy it be ready again 3 January.

“Should we drop three points, you [the media] will be the first to say that we’re nervous. We can’t play that match and we wont do it.

“In the present time it’s really a marathon which we’re running.

“When you’re running a marathon with brand new trainers and also a brand new shirt, everyone around you says it’s excellent however, you’re the one who must run. That is the situation.”

Klopp said his players were alert to Spurs’ defeat before they kicked off Arsenal but said his side were”completely focused” in the fixture.

“I did not find a smile on some other faces at the dressing room,” he explained.

“Today it isn’t about creating headlines, however about playing football matches as well as possible and picking up more points, which we’ll try and do as best we can.

“The only thing which could get annoying is answering the very same questions. Provided that we consider football then everything is nice “
