Kuban Desire to deliver for Russia
For its traditionally strong Russian clubs, qualification for its Women’s EHF Cup was exceptionally disappointing that season. While hand ball Club Lada, Zvezda Zvenigorod and Astrakhanochka were all eliminated, Kuban became the only team in Russia to successfully qualify for your band period.
Kuban were also on the verge of failure in Qualification Round 3 after a home loss to Mecalia Atletico Guardes (27:26), but they switched the tie round in the 2nd leg in Spain (33:31) and squeezed into the band phase with a one-goal aggregate win.
Three EHF EURO silver medallists in group
“We all participate in the EHF Cup Group Stage for the next season in a row, and we all have been the only team in Europe who it. It’s essential for all of us because competing using the strongest teams is very theraputic to our team,” said Kuban’s mind trainer Evgenii Trefilov.
The 63-year-old can also be Russia’s national trainer — and also the Russian team finished as runners-up at the Women’s EHF EURO 2018 in France. Three Kuban players — Yaroslava Frolova, Antonina Skorobogatchenko and Ekaterina Barkalova — received EHF EURO silver medals.
Now the focus for all those involved in the EHF EURO yields into the club competitions, including the EHF Cup. Two decades back, Kuban improved from the band phase to the quarterfinal, at which they lost against SG BBM Bietigheim. However, last season the side shot third place in their own category, completing behind eventual EHF Cup winners SCM Craiova and Brest Bretagne Handball.
Searching success in “group of departure ”
Kuban are aiming to reach more in the class phase this season where they are going to face Larvik HK, Viborg HK and also E.S. Besancon Feminin in Group C.
“it’s a set of death; each team could proceed through. Our rivals are very famous teams, but Larvik and Viborg are perhaps not the same as a few decades ago as their former players are currently spread all over Europe. We’ll fight for every single point and want to really go so much as feasible,” said Trefilov.
Trefilov will not see some big favourites in the contest. He explained: “There are no teams of this Győfrazee calibre in the EHF Cup — every one can gain the championship. Last week, for instance, we beat Craiova, who finally won the title. However, it will make the tournament more interesting. ”
