Daniel Suarez, that finished second at Pocono at 2018, begins life anew at Stewart-Haas Racing.
CHARLOTTE, N.C. — NASCAR Cup series driver Daniel Suarez isn’t convinced about his feelings over his release from Joe Gibbs Racing.
He would like to say he has hard feelings. But he may well not really understand until he sees that the JGR No. 1-9 car on the trail driven by Martin Truex Jr., whose hiring left Suarez without a ride.
“I will wreck him” Suarez says with fun.
He was not acute, although he doesn’t truly know perhaps the past will motivate him as he takes over the StewartHaas Racing No. 4 1 car in 2013.
“It’s hard to answer this question [about the way I will feel] together with the reality because the truth is that this is a company and it’s very hard to own hard feelings,” Suarez said. “In the same time, it is extremely difficult never to take it personal because it’s my own life in the exact midst of most of this.
“But by the close of your afternoon, I felt just like that is the very ideal seat that actually could happen. I wanted fresh air. I wanted a switch. Last year was not good for me.”
The Monterrey indigenous is the sole full time Mexican driver to compete in the Cup series.
“There is no hard feelings in any way, but at one pointI would tell you there were also that I had been nervous about what was about to happen,” Suarez said. “But today I’m very grateful. … It’s hard to go from a very great team to the next very, very good team.
“That’s exactly what just happened to myself”
The 20-16 Xfinity Series winner, Suarez has been pushed to Cup annually earlier than expected once Carl Edwards retired about six weeks ahead of this 20 17 season. Suarez ended a commendable 20th in points with 1 particular top-5 along with 1-2 top-10s although his team chief Dave Rogers resigned early in this season.
“there is only a thing which has beenn’t working [in Gibbs] and also we did not understand very well what it had been, and also because of this I felt just such as fresh atmosphere and one fresh was likely to be best for me — I knew that even before what happened,” Suarez said.
“And then things start to happen this way and that I [thought],’do you know what? This really is going to be unsatisfactory at the beginning.’ But when things start to exercise better, I was extremely eager for the challenge and exceptionally excited for that shift “
SHR won 12 races at 2018 and place all four of its drivers into the next (semifinal) around of the NASCAR playoffs.
“I feel as though Gibbs was extremely good for me personally,” Suarez said. We won a championship together. They gave me a chance to go to Cup at 20 17. In 20 17 we did very decent because of being our very first year.
“a year ago, regrettably, I did not match my expectations, not even close. … there is something lost somewhere. I really couldn’t believe it is and they couldn’t believe it is “
If Suarez has heard anything in his livelihood, it is the way to adapt to change — and what shift could mean for some team. Hence that the move to SHR marks another bit of uncertainty, but with incredible potential.

“I had maybe a month, month-and-a-half at which I had been worried of exactly what was about to occur, but options [started] to come my own way fast and also we could lay things down,” Suarez said. “Then Arris was able to encourage my livelihood and which has been very, very valuable and everything fit very well with Stewart-Haas Racing to be where I’m at today.”
As the statement was Monday — not merely was it Suarez’s birthday but it had been 4 1 days before the Daytona 500 — Suarez has been known for weeks that the bargain was imminent. He had gone to the shop, but came during non-working hours.
“Since the news is recorded, it’s definitely going to be far easier to perform and that I will not need to worry hiding every time that I go to the shop, therefore that I feel like it’s definitely going to be even more comfortable,” Suarez said. “I’m glad that this day finally came and we’re in a position to enjoy your afternoon just a tiny bit and then go back to work”
That is his only time at the car before Feb. 9 when practice begins at Daytona. He’ll also compete at the Race of Champions,” Jan. 1920 at Mexico City.
Suarez knows there are people who were not impressed with his first two Cup seasons, but he could be confident in their own ability to win races together with SHR.
“I realize that everything I’ve done, no body has ever given to me. … For all the individuals who have doubts, the results are going to talk for themselves — we’ll see how that will work out”
