FRISCO, Texas — On Aug. 1-3, 20-16, when Dak Prescott walked to the Los Angeles Coliseum for the first time, he was envisioning what’s coming on Saturday.
Prescott was a fourth-round pick afterward, wanting to demonstrate that the Dallas Cowboys he would possibly be Tony Romo’so backup, but the big picture was always on his mind. He was confident he would have been a beginning in the NFL. He was confident he would be capable of get a team into a playoff match, as he’ll Saturday (8:15 p.m. ET, Fox) contrary to the la Rams.
It wasn’t anything that he whined; it was something be believed.
“I figure that I couldn’t imagine it being back in the Coliseum against the team that I started out my livelihood,” Prescott said, “nevertheless I’ve always talked about the confidence I’ve had in myself and this particular team. Nothing has changed. ”
The Coliseum was abuzz on this hot August day. It was the Rams’ first match back in Los Angeles. The scene was packed with fans as well as the game was nationally televised, using ESPN’s Monday Night Football team calling the activity.
Prescott was starting because Kellen Moore, who’s now the Cowboys quarterbacks coach, had suffered a broken ankle 10 days early in the day and, being a veteran, Tony Romo was not going to play in the first preseason match.
&ldquoWe were playing that match with the concept that people wanted to find out that which we had,” offensive coordinator Scott Linehan said. “It is probably everybody’s glimpse of that which Dak’therefore around. ”
Prescott had a couple of practices with the first team offense during training camp in Oxnard, California, with Romo resting every third day. He did not take first team snaps during organized team activities along with the minicamp at the spring. In those days, the Cowboys only wanted him to get better at taking a snap from center.
When he joined the first team huddle at Circle, another Hall of Fame tight end (Witten), three all pro offensive linemen (Smith, Frederick and Martin) and the franchise’s alltime pioneer in touchdown catches (Bryant) were staring at him.
“Immediately off the bat, you could tell he was created for a pioneer,” Frederick stated. “And knew what he was doing and what he wished to do. He struggled with calling the plays or you won’t ever watched him feel as though the match was too big for himwhen you looked round the huddle and watched those guys that were there. ”
Therefore maybe it was not surprising to many that Prescott flourished from the Rams. He completed 10 of 12 passes in the first half for 139 yards and had touchdown throws of 10 metres to Bryant and 32 metres to Williams. He’d a 14-yard streak, too, and completely out performed the No. 1 choice of this 20-16 draft and also his counterpart Saturday, Jared Goff.
“In the very end of the day, it was much better than we thought it’d be,” executive vice president Stephen Jones stated.
Prescott has started every match since, winning 33 games, including his first postseason match contrary to the Seattle Seahawks last Saturday at the wild-card round. He’s Got a Rookie of the Year award along with his résumé Together with a Pro Bowl appearance.
“I’m not saying that I always knew he was going to be where he is now,” Linehan said, “however I presume we all had a gut feeling he was going to be a hell of a person in this league. ”
When he walks from into the Coliseum turf on Saturday, his mindset won’t be too different from one he had when he took the field on Aug. 1-3, 20-16.
“When I go out, I head out to play the match, I day the mindset win, such as I’m exactly the No. inch, just like I’m the guy whether I was then or perhaps maybe not. It’s only sort of the way I have to approach everything. All of it worked out. ”
