Former Formula 1 winner Fernando Alonso added still another decoration into his cabinet.

Alonso, 37, retired from F 1 at the end of the year but won a rain-affected race along with Renger van der Zande, Kamui Kobayashi and Jordan Taylor from the Wayne Taylor Racing Cadillac.

The race at the Florida circuit has been red flagged twice because of rainfall.

“Only an awesome experience – perfect implementation for your own race,” Alonso said.

“We were competitive in all – dry, wet, night.”

Alonso is your third largest winner to win after Mario Andretti and Phil Hill.

The Spaniard – who has won Le Mans – made his debut at the Daytona race this past year, ending at 38th position.

He will try to combine Britain’s Graham Hill as the sole racers to win the triple crown of the Monaco Grand Prix, 24 Hours of Le Mans and also Indianapolis 500 if he competes at the latter for its next time in May.
