WASHINGTON — Alex Ovechkin has passed Sergei Fedorov because the top-scoring Russian participant in NHL history.

The Washington Capitals captain picked his 1,180th point on T.J. Oshie‘s goal that opened the scoring Tuesday from the Vancouver Canucks. Ovechkin broke the record in his 1,055th game, 193 games under Fedorov playedwith.

The 33-year-old out of Moscow directs the NHL and paces the Capitals with 5-8 points. He’s coming off since he led Washington to its first Stanley Cup winning the Conn Smythe Trophy as playoff MVP.

Ovechkin and Fedorov for its maximum goals among Russian-born players sometime ago passed. He has 536 assists in his NHL career and 644 aims.
