Can the Red Sox plan on extending Chris Sale along with Mookie Betts before the season starts? If that’s the case, could this be the reason they have not re signed Craig Kimbrel?

A decision like that is clearly a two-way street between the club and the player, therefore that I actually don’t think you can plan about it. It takes two to create a offer. But, you also make a point. I do think a big reason the Red Sox have not made a big cost for a closer because they discover just how many major contract decisions they’ve coming up that cold temperatures is.

Sale, Xander Bogaerts along with Rick Porcello Qualify for free agency after the 2019 season. Can be free agents after 2020. J.D. Martinez has an Opt Out clause after every one of the subsequent two seasons. There are a lot of decisions to be made in the not too distant future, and the Red Sox understand they need to maintain some of these players.

What would you think about Michael Chavis moving from third base to second base for a thickness option or even while a future regular?

I gets got the body of a large part guy and think Chavis projects more. The only path I could see your situation sanity is when Dustin Pedroia comes with a big setback and the Red Sox want a creative way to get more production in the line up.

Will Alex Cora’s World Series-winning coaching staff return in 2013?

The entire staff is back. That isn’t always the case for a team that wins the World Series. In most cases, other nightclubs attempt to employ coaches. The coaching staff was an aspect of the team last year. They all developed a strong connection with their team. Veteran Ron Roenicke may be the bench coach. Tim Hyers (hitting coach) and Andy Barkett (helper hitting coach) run the offense. While Carlos Febles coaches the infielders and third tom Goodwin may be the trainer and outfield instructor.

Just how come there isn’t any dependence on Kimbrel? Or at least a bullpen arm? They handed on Adam Ottavino, Zach Britton, Andrew Miller, etc..

As president of baseball operations Dave Dombrowski has set often times this offseason, you have to choose how you are going to devote your payroll. The Red Sox have a lot of money spent from the starting rotation, and also the outfield along with Martinez. The citizenship is projected to be the highest in MLB without a successful closer. When his price and period of deal comes down enough, I suppose, there’s still a chance he could be back.

As the free-agent market is still slow for another season, particularly for the big stars, do you believe this can make it less likely for Martinez to determine of his contract assuming he’s another year like last season? Clearly a year would play with a factor.
— Adam K., Clarkston, Mich..

I believe Martinez is about to accomplish exactly what he believes is right and it isn’t likely to be more terrified of this market. Keep in mind, Martinez waited until the second week of Spring Training to sign. However, the problem must be closely tracked, and it’ll have a lot to do with how healthy and productive Martinez is in 2019. I would have to think he would either go back on the market or even re negotiate with the Red Sox if he’s another year just like last year.

Betts certainly did a phenomenal job from the leadoff spot in 2018. What exactly is the take on moving him to the No. 2 spot and with Andrew Benintendi simply take over the leadoff role?

I’ll admit being a little surprised when that switch was announced by Cora . Cora was adamant last year that Betts would be his leadoff man for that season and he never wavered in this. By now, though, nothing should surprise you about Cora. He’s always thinking about ways he will get out from the team. The overriding element is that Betts needs to get many more RBI opportunities batting minute in the place of first.

Benintendi was still so comfortable at lead off if Betts was injured last year. And hitting that spot should enable Benintendi to focus on getting on base and not worry about the home run drought he’d the previous number of months of last season.

What is the best-case scenario for Rusney Castillo at this point?
— Naman M., North Attleboro, Mass..

Castillo is due to earn $11 million in 2019 and $13.5 million in 2020. Provided that he is with all the Red Sox, then he is going to be stuck in triplea because of the consequences that will have putting back him on the 40-man roster. Lately he has an Opt Out after the season. Though exercising that Opt Out might easily get him to the Major Leagues somewhere, Castillo wouldn’t be able to touch that $13.5 million figure somewhere else. I’m guessing he rides it out and latches on somewhere after that, perhaps like a fourth outfielder with a opportunity to earn more playing time if he can do. Castillo is likely to soon be 33 years old at the ending of the’20 year old.
