WASHINGTON — The La Kings have traded ahead Nate Thompson and a fifth-round choose into the Montreal Canadiens to get a fourth-round selection.

Each choice is from the 2019 draft. The teams announced the transaction Monday prior to the Kings faced the defending Stanley Cup winner Washington Capitals.

Thompson has four goals and two assists in 53 matches for Los Angeles this season. He has won 53.3 percent of the faceoffs and positions 34th at the NHL. The 34-year-old is a pending free agent who carries a $1.65 million salary cap hit for the rest of the season.

The fourth-round find the Kings got from the Canadiens is that the Calgary Flames‘ selection. The fifth-round pick they shipped with Thompson to Montreal is Arizona’s selection.
