Menard had directed the majority of the race from pole position in his Wood Brothers-run Ford Mustang, but on Lap 57, Johnson made his move with rain threatening to end the race early.

A huge pile up that included all of their field was triggered by their collision. Heavy rain then fell throughout the consequent yellow, also the race has been predicted shortly afterwards.

“Jimmie pulled , I moved a little bit, and the next thing I knew I’m becoming turned in the left rear,” said Menard, who also pointed out that Johnson took him out in the July race at Daytona this past year. “Jimmie does this the great deal at these tracks, it’therefore regrettable.

“We only got switched there.  I didn’t know until I watched that a replay what happened.  I felt just like it had been competitive side-drafting.  I have turned into the within and hooked to the correct and hell broke loose. ”

“It was a pretty tame race until that point.  We knew that the last restart was a fresh race — just a small dash for cash to this ending.  It had been expected.

“rsquo & I;m amazed we actually got single file up top again after that last restart, but I knew something like that was gont happen.  It had been simply a matter of time. ”

The other Ford driver, Team Penske’s Joey Logano, managed to weave his way through the madness to finish third, also said: “In my view, it’s merely cars crashing and seeking to avert it, but it merely appeared as if [Johnson] was hoping to side-draft Paul.  He was assaulted by him, although I & rsquo; m convinced it & rsquo; s perhaps not intentional. ”
