Former Mississippi State defensive lineman Jeffery Simmons, a projected first-round pick from the NFL draft, also suffered a knee injury during training that is thought to be a torn ACL, league sources tell ESPN’s Adam Schefter along with Chris Mortensen.
A statement to offer on Simmons’ injury is anticipated to be released later Tuesday, based on Mortensen and Schefter.
Simmons was ranked as the No. 12 complete draft possibility from the latest big board in ESPN’s Mel Kiper, also he was estimated to be the No. 7 overall pick by the Jaguars at ESPN draft expert Todd McShay’s latest mock draft.
A premier prospect coming from high school, Simmons was captured on video hitting on a woman; the episode took place before Simmons came at Mississippi State. He pleaded no contest to assault.
