DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. — New England Patriots wide receiver and Super Bowl MVP Julian Edelman Was termed the honorary starter for Sunday’s Daytona 500.

The honor caps a whirlwind two weeks for Edelman, who since winning his third Super Bowl on Feb. 3 has seen Disney World with quarter back Tom Brady and functioned as a secretary in the Grammy awards.

A half dozen quarterbacks have functioned at Daytona, including Terry Bradshaw, Troy Aikman and Ken Stabler. Other athletes from outside racing include trackstar Jackie Joyner Kersee, Hall of Famer Ken Griffey Jr. and the 2015 U.S. women’s soccer team.

This past year’s honorary newcomer was Oscar-winning actress Charlize Theron.
