Panthers tight end Greg Olsen may have a career for a broadcaster after football. Can it come sooner than expected?
After his playing career endings, those traits also make him a natural for television.
That’therefore Olsen’s name keeps coming since Jason Witten announced the other day he was quitting his job as lead writer on ESPN’s Monday Night Football after one season to go back to Dallas to play tight end.
Call it the curse to be good, maybe even great.
Olsen told ESPN.com his attention continues to be about rehabbing from surgery on his right foot and returning to the elite degree he performed from 2014-16, when he became the first tight end in NFL history to record three directly 1,000-yard receiving seasons.
Carolina coach Ron Rivera said a week which Olsen “has told me he would like to play.” Rivera said that but it had been briefly before Witten’therefore announcement.
Even the Panthers, according to a league source, are moving forward. If that shifted there might be shock at Bank of America Stadium.
Olsen, who turns 34 comes with an eye on broadcasting later football. He didn’when expressing his commitment to 21, t completely slam the door on television last month. He used the definition of “today” when speaking about his mindset on playing 2019.
This isn’to not imply Olsen’s desire to play has decreased. This is always to imply there’s a whole lot more to be contemplated.
It wasn’t until late April, shortly following the NFL draft and together with high agents signed, which Witten announced he retired to go to the MNF booth.
Thomas finished with 36 catches for 333 yards and two touchdowns.
So if Carolina had to add a third tight end to restore Olsen, then they can do so at no agency or through the draft. This ’s perhaps not ideal. Nonetheless, it’s a much better position than a year ago, when Olsen opting for the MNF job before Witten got it.
Carolina’s perfect strategy would be for Olsen and Thomas to eventually become to quarter back Cam Newton that which Olsen and Jeremy Shockey were in 2011.
When asked about the future thing rivera painted that film.
“He left two or three big plays, then disappeared a tiny bit, then made a few of. We need him in order to measure to the forefront and be considered described as a excellent complement with Greg Olsen.
“The two of those guys can be very energetic, [like] my very first two seasons . We had a mixture of ends, and that I presume we all ’re. ”
There would be salary-cap implications should Olsen render that will have an impact on Carolina’therefore 20-19 plans. Olsen has two years left on his current deal, therefore his contract could count as if he were released. Olsen is place to count $6,662,500 contrary to the 20-19 cap. The team would recover $2,962,500 of this should he retire with a post-June inch designation.
Because they state in TV, stay educated.
