Detroit Red Wings defenseman Mike Green will overlook out the remainder of the summer season due to a lingering virus which has sapped his ability, the team said Thursday.

Green, 33, missed the start of the season as a result of the virus, that had been assaulting his liver.

After the newest flare-up, he saw a specialist who advocated weeks of remainder. Coach Jeff Blashill said he had been told that Green doesn’t face any longterm consequences, but he needs proper remainder.

Green bounced straight back from the virus during the summer before it came back , registering 26 points in 43 games.

He’s under contract for one more year after this , with a cap hit of about $ 5.375 million.
