From Jeff Aranow: IBF light heavyweight champion Artur Beterbiev will Soon Be making his Second defense of his title against #13 IBF Radivoje ‘Hot Rod’ Kalajdzic on Top Rank Boxing on ESPN at the Stockton Arena in Stockton, California. Best Rank CEO Bob Arum has shipped out the contract, and it’s a completed deal, based on Dan Rafael of all ESPN.
Beterbiev (13-0, 13 KOs) was supposed to be fighting Sven Fornling, but Top Rank switched out him for Kalajdzic (241, 17 KOs) for the unknown reason. This is just really a better choice concerning entertainment value. Kalajdzic is a slugger with superior power, that gave unbeaten 2012 U.S Olympian Marcus Browne (23-0, 16 KOs) he could handle in losing a contentious eight round split three decades back in April 20-16.
The hardcore Boxing fans from the us will have recalled that the Browne vs. Kalajdzic fight, and so they ’ll be happy to see Beterbiev carry on “Hot Rod” on May 4. But a bigger proportion of fans won’t understand who he could be, and so they won’t be as excited at seeing this particular fight, particularly since DAZN will have a massive card they’ll be showing on precisely the same night.
After getting lost from the initial round from Browne, in knocking down him into the first round 25, Kalajdzic came back to come back the fight. Kalajdzic dominated the second half the fight, and appeared to complete enough to deserve the win, but the judges gave Browne it. A number of the Boxing fans who saw the fight were miserable with the consequences, believing that Kalajdzic had escaped the triumph.
There was never a rematch between them. Browne recently conquered former two division world champion Badou Jack by way of a decision last January to catch the World Boxing Association light heavyweight name.
This will soon be the Beterbiev’s fight with Top Rank Boxing since inking together with them. Theyrsquo;re giving a tough opponent in Radivoje, that a lot better than the ranking that the International Boxing Federation has given him to him.
Prime Rank’s decision to place the Beterbiev-Kalajdzic fight on May 4 ensures that it’ll be competing with the arguably bigger fight between WBA/WBC middle weight champion Saul Canelo Alvarez and IBF winner Daniel Jacobs on DAZN. As long as Top Rank places Beterbiev vs. Kalajdzic on regular ESPN, it may be fine, but it they put this fight on the ESPN+ program on May 4, it probably won’t bring great ratings. Canelo is just a highly common fighter, and there will be plenty of attention from Boxing fans in the U.S to see him and Jacobs fight instead of watching Beterbiev versus Kalajdzic. That’s an excellent fight, but the Boxing fans well know neither of them, and so they ’re not going to be understand soon. A better for the Beterbiev fight would be May 11. There’s going on with respect to big fights. A lot of Boxing fans will still be tuning in to see this night Beterbiev-Kalajdzic fight with one another on, because it’s on ESPN. DAZN is still fresh, and also the platform hasn’t attracted into a giant number of readers. It’s not just really a good thing that the hardcore Boxing fans might have to choose between both cards .
The Beterbiev vs. Kalajdzic undercard is still taking shape. It’therefore going for a while before we understand who just will be fighting on the card. As of now, these would be the fighters around the undercard:
— Isidro Ochoa vs. TBA
— Movladdin Biyarslanov vs. TBA
