Philadelphia 76ers centre Joel Embiid plans to handle the seeing Indiana Pacers on Sunday (3:30 p.m., ABC) after missing the previous eight games because of left knee soreness, a team source told ESPN’s Ramona Shelburne.

Embiid has never played since the All-Star Game, where he scored 10 points in 23 minutes.

The Sixers are 4-4 at Embiid’s lack and also have lost two straight, including Friday’s 107-91 defeat at Houston.

On Wednesday, coach Brett Brown explained the goal would be to possess Embiid healthy in time for the playoffs.

“The most important thing is we have come this far in relation to remaining All-Star break — personally, I am at a point where it takes more time, therefore make it,” Brown explained. “The end game is obvious: It’s hoping to send him into the playoffs healthy. Ido look up from time to time and pay attention to the calendar. It’s not as you have an abundance of time.”

The Sixers input Sunday one match behind the Pacers, who now sit in the Eastern Conference standings.
