The ny Jets have released running back Isaiah Crowell, the team announced Thursday.

Along with free representative Le’Veon Bell, who decided to some four-year, $52.5 million contract late Tuesday night, made Crowell expendable. The Jets were intending to discharge Crowell even if they did not sign Bell. This leaves Bell, Elijah McGuire and Trenton Cannon because of their top three backs. Bilal Powell, the longest-tenured player on last season’s team, is a free agent and not very likely to reunite.

Crowell, who turned 26 in January, was one-and-done with the Jets. After four seasons with all the Cleveland Browns, he signed a whopping, $12 million contract ($4 million guaranteed at signing) and became the starting running back last season.

He hurried for 685 yards, six touchdowns and a 4.8-yard ordinary, but one third of his production for the growing season came in 1 game. Throughout a Week 5 victory on the Denver Broncos, he also set the franchise record with 219 rushing yards.

Unexpectedly, he had just 15 carries — a 14.6 per-carry ordinary. This was the highest average at a game (minimum 15 attempts) with means of a new player in history.

Crowell’s season dipped sharply after his record-setting afternoon, as he eclipsed 49 yards just one time for the rest of the year. He fought foot and ankle injuries and finished on injured reserve.

He created national headlines using an unsportsmanlike conduct punishment in Week 3 at Cleveland. After scoring against his former team, Crowell distinguished by pretending to wash his back end with the ball, and that he retreated to the floor.

Crowell was fined $13,369 by the , but he parlayed the crude gesture to an endorsement deal with a company which sells toilet fixes for males.

Back in 20-16, Crowell sparked a controversy after he submitted on his Insta-gram account an illustration of a police officer being stabbed in the neck by way of a hooded figure. This was his response to this fatal shootings of two black men by police . Crowell later apologized and contributed a game check to the police department.

In five times, Crowell includes 3,803 racing yards and 27 touchdowns.
