Seven-time Cup Series champion Jimmie Johnson led how Friday’s training at Car Club Speedway in Fontana, Calif., initially since last autumn he’s topped the leader board in Acup series practice.
The California native’s average lap rate of 179.386 miles came very early in the 50-minute session. Austin Dillon wound up moment (179.350 mph) and as a result of your late-session drafting streak, Chris Buescher was third (178.975 mph).
“We’ve got room to run across here, more lanes along with options from this standpoint with very long straight aways, so it could possibly be a pretty exciting race which involves a good deal of drafting,” Johnson said of the weekend’s rush.
“I feel the longer the straight away the higher that this (aero) package will show and the more competitive racing it’ll placed on. California should be a excellent test for it.
Oddly enough, Keselowski was the sole Ford catalyst to crack the Top 10.
This past year’s race winner, Martin Truex Jr., ended up 16th fastest.
