Heino Kuhn will captain Kent while Sam Billings and Joe Denly are off playing in the Indian Premierleague.
Ex-South Africa batsman Kuhn, 34, had a critical role in the club’s promotion to Division One final year, scoring 780 runs at an average of 33.91.
Regular captain Billings will play Chennai Super Kings at the IPL, with Vice Captain Denly representing Kolkata Knight Riders.
Batsman Daniel Bell-Drummond will be interim vice captain at Canterbury.
“It increased a great debate amongst us who had been simply the right person for the role,” head coach Matt Walker stated.
“We might have gone a bit longer of a left field course and really thrown some one the gauntlet with this small time but that I think we’re in safer hands with Heino.
“that I wasn’t quite sure whether he had been going to want todo it, having only been here for a year, however, he had been very up for it and felt very honoured to be asked.
“It is the obvious choice in various ways in terms of his experience, international quality, the way he goes about his business like a skilled and everyone respects very highly.”
Kent start their County Championship year against Somerset at Taunton on 5 April.
