By Allan Fox: Two days after his disappointing loss to Errol Spence Jr. at Arlington, Texas, four branch world champion Mikey Garcia is considering moving in weight from 147 to 135 to resume defending his WBC lightweight title. However, Mikey’s trainer Robert Garcia wants him to proceed to light-welterweight, based on TMZ. Robert thinks the 140 lb weight class are a good one for him personally.
The very first question a lot of Boxing fans could like to understand is why would Robert need Mikey to go down to 140 in the place of 135? If Mikey dates back down to lightweight, he will fight WBA/WBO champion Vasiliy Lomachenko, who’s focused on unifying the 135 lb division. If Mikey returns to lightweight, he would have enormous pressure from the fans for him to face Lomachenko. That’SA struggle that Mikey could potentially lose. Lomachenko features a poor style because of him personally.
“I think Mikey has quite a few options. I do believe moving to 140 is maybe his best alternative, but there’s also big struggles at 147 he could shoot,” Robert Garcia believed to TMZ.com. “It’therefore not going to be easy to get back down to 135, especially after he attained everything that muscle to resist at 147. I think 140 will be best for him personally. That’ll be my information. However, if he remains at 147, he could compete against some of the additional winners. Errol Spence was just the best, and extremely tough,” Robert said.
It’s not the best thing for Mikey to stay at 147. There was not anything wrong with Mikey’s hitting electricity. He showed exemplary power in landing a few fine shots that froze Spence, which makes him reluctant to strike rounds 10, 11 and 12. What Mikey lacks is the elevation, reach, and also the job speed. He also doesn’t throw enough forces for him to beat guys like Shawn Porter, Manny Pacquiao or Keith Thurman. There was a few fat that Mikey Puton.
This was far from a simple struggle for Garcia (39-1, 30 KOs), because it had been a grueling struggle by which he required a lot of punishment.
If Mikey listens to Robert and goes all the way down to light welterweight, then he would potentially have his best shot at inning yet another world title because weight class if he battled WBO champion Maurice Hooker(26-0-3, 17 KOs), who’d looked vulnerable at times throughout his career. Garcia, 3-1, would have a superb chance at defeating the 5’1 1 ” Hooker if he could get passed his very long hit.
The best fighter in the light welterweight division at the moment could be arguably Regis Prograis, but he’s still involved from the planet Boxing Super Series championship game. Prograis won’t be around until the championship is finished with, and then that won’t be until 2020. Mikey will take care of his previous IBF belt contrary to Ivan Baranchyk. Hes likely to be dropping out of this WBSS tournament. Mikey won’t receive a lot of fame from fighting Baranchyk, but he’ll have a shot at winning back his IBF title. It’s doubtful, but that Garcia would bother fighting Baranchyk, because he uttered his IBF title last year when the sanctioning body ordered to take the struggle .
Residing at 147 will indicate that Mikey could pursue Pacquiao second, and look to take that struggle apart from Spence. Pacquiao might want to struggle Mikey, and who would blame him? Despite having his lack of Spence, Mikey is likely the bigger draw than him.
