Recently interviews with ESPN and Sports Illustrated, Bell assessed his experience with Ben Roethlisberger, that had been the subject of Antonio Brown’s criticism before the Steelers substituted Brown into the Oakland Raiders.
Having signed up a four-year, $52.5 million bargain with the Jets after a year long hold out on the franchise tag, Bell told SI that Roethlisberger is really a”good cop” with preferences about who gets the ball from the Steelers’ crime.
“The organization WIShes to triumph. [Coach Mike] Tomlin wants to triumph,” Bell stated. “Ben wants to triumph — but Ben wants to secure his manner, and that’s tough to play with. Now he is at this stage where he tries to get a grip on every thing, and [the team] let him get there. If I am furious at a person and I am not throwing him the ball — if I am not throwing a b the ball and I am giving ju-ju [Smith-Schuster] all of the shine or Jesse [James] or Vance [McDonald] or whoever it is, and also you understand consciously you’re making your additional receiver mad but you do not care — it’s tough to win like that “
Bell said from the SI interview that Roethlisberger’s presence was not the sole element in his needing to leave, but”yes, it had been one factor” Bell added he wanted he had had a”more open, more genuine, more real” relationship with the quarterback.
Even the Steelers haven’t experienced a losing season in Roethlisberger’s 1-5 seasons but fought down the stretch in 2018, missing the playoffs after losing their past 4 games by a total of nine points.
Bell touched the ball 406 days from the Steelers’ crime in 20 17 and has been regularly the second-most targeted player in the passing game supporting Brown.
Bell told ESPN that he understands Brown’s view.
“Once I had been there, there have been no significant issues such as this, maybe minor matters such as being on Facebook, being uneasy,” said Bell, referring to Brown’s face-book Live broadcast in the lockerroom after having a 20 17 playoff triumph in Kansas City. “I understand Ben and a b personally. I understand how characters can get. I am able to easily see where things went wrong.
“A lot of things a b said, it had a lot of truth to it. I’ve had some of these interactions. I do not react like a b does. A b isn’t the only bad guy in the situation. Ben isn’t the only bad guy either. It’s not just 1 individual. It ai not just me. It’s everyone “
Many analysts and ex-players have contested Roethlisberger’s leadership. However, Steelers defensive ending Tyson Alualu said”his play and his leadership speaks for itself,” and overall manager Kevin Colbert called Roethlisberger the”unquestioned leader” of their team.
Bell hasn’t spoken to Roethlisberger since his hold out, during which Bell almost reported multiple times, he told ESPN. He planned to record before the Week 8 matchup with the Cleveland Browns but stayed away after learning fresh information regarding the franchise tag and his impending free service. He came into town during Week 10 and said he nearly made the drive into the facility.
Inside his SI interview, Bell said his initial policy for 2018 evolved from lost training camp, and then skipping just 1 week, then to finally maybe not feeling”comfortable” with the situation.
Roethlisberger stayed diplomatic all through the method, saying he had been concerned no more than the players in the Steelers locker room.
Bell knows his hold out angered the Steelers, which could explain why he learned from just a few ex-teammates following his rejoicing signing — Brown, who recruited him to Oakland, and freeagent recipient Darrius Heyward-Bey.
“I do want to talk to train T sooner or later,” Bell stated.
