British number-one Cameron Norrie has gone outside of their Miami Open later putting up with a 4-6 7-6 (7-5) 6-3 first-round overcome by Australia’s Jordan Thompson.

Norrie, ranked 26 places more than his competitor in 51st, took the first group but was fundamentally commissioned as Thompson avenged his 2018 US Open loss.

It’s a second consecutive first-round defeat for Norrie after an early departure in Indian Wells.

Fellow Briton Dan Evans plays Tunisia’s Malek Jaziri later on Thursday.

Evans could be the beneficiary of a lucky loser slot at the draw after losing to Kazakhstan’s Alexander Bublik at a bad tempered qualifier on Wednesday.
