Even the New Orleans Saints are all on the brink of fulfilling their glaring need with the top pass-catching tight end available in free agency this year, Jared Cook.

Sources have clarified a deal between both sides as close but perhaps not finalized — which Cook himself amplified on Friday.

When asked if he has consented to a deal with New Orleans, Cook winked and told ESPN’s Jamison Hensley,”Perhaps,” while at an event for its NFL’s Ed Block Courage Award winners. Cook afterward said”it’s going to be pretty awesome” catching passes from Drew Brees.

“I have been a big fan of Drew to get a long time and how he approaches the game,” Cook explained. “He’s on point. He’s at the top of his game at the moment. He’s only a baller. I anticipate seeing him do amazing things in the future. …

“It could be a major production year. As long as I take good care of everything I can take good care of, we have to be all right.”

When asked if he’s surprised to be departing the Oakland Raiders after having two of their best seasons of his own 10-year career with them, Cook said,”Yeah, but it’s really a company enterprise. They are still my own guys. You simply take it for what it is.”

He played in his first Pro Bowl in January as an alternate.

New Orleans, meanwhile, needs a second reliable pass catcher to match with recipient Michael Thomas and running back Alvin Kamara. This past year, tight-end Benjamin Watson ranked third to the Saints with 3-5 receptions — and Watson has since murdered.

Cook two years with the Raiders and that is your first tight end in NFL history to have a 100-yard-receiving game for 3 teams — both the Titans, Rams, Packers and Raiders.

Last week, Cook had four games with at least a hundred yards receiving. He put the franchise record for a tight end with 180 metres — on nine grabs — at the summer season opener from the Los Angeles Rams.

Cook was fourth among all NFL tight ends last season in receiving yards, tied for fourth in touchdowns and was with 15 receptions of 20 or more yards.

With 5,464 career receiving yards, Cook is your active tight end at the NFL with 5,000 yards. He’s got 425 receptions to get an average of 12.9 yards per catch, and he’s got 25 touchdowns.

He was likewise the Raiders’ winner of the Ed Block award, which says it honors”those who attest responsibilities into the principles of sportsmanship and courage. The recipient symbolizes professionalism, good commitment and strength.”
