As in where they want Jackson at the secondary in a specific game, a given series or perhaps a play.
“I honestly enjoy type of floating around, playing a little everywhere,” Jackson said. “” I feel as that may be a benefit for us as a team game planning-wise, simply depending on what sort of skill sets which the offense possesses in relation to the people they have. Perhaps not knowing exactly what I’ll be week in and week out is also a plus for us.”
At the preliminary wave of free service , the Broncos instantly made their top priorities clear in the available sector. They formally completed a trade in quarterback to acquire Joe Flacco, signed up an appropriate address in Ja’Wuan James, plus they also added two defensive backs — Jackson along with Bryce Callahan.
And people two defensive springs match coach Vic Fangio’s criteria at the secondary make over — versatile players who tackle well.
Jackson, who will turn 31 in April, might be a risky bet. But Jackson, who did not miss a game at the past two seasons and it has never played in fewer than 12 in some of their previous nine years with the Texans, can play cornerback or safety, lineup outside or at the slotmachine, as needed, and more than one pro personnel director in the league announced him to function as best-tackling defensive back in the NFL last season when he finished with a career-best 87 take-downs.
Couple those amounts with five tackles for loss, 17 passes defensed, two forced fumbles, two interceptions and something welcome-to-the-NFL hit on Broncos rookie running Phillip Lindsay last season, and the Broncos have the guy Fangio desires wandering along with Chris Harris Jr.
“it offers us a whole lot of options,” Fangio said. &ldquo: simply from week to week we might be able to line him up where we feel he matches to defend the team we’re playing. He’s demonstrated it in games and onto cassette he can execute the positions, not just know just what direction to go, but play them competitively and at that high level.”
It also indicates that the Broncos understand their own divisional neighborhood as well. The Chiefs have Patrick Mahomes, the Chargers have Philip Rivers along with Raiders coach Jon Gruden has gone all-in on offense already within this offseason with a trade for receiver Antonio Brown leading a pile of movements on offense.
Harris considers he can add an edge to the defense.
“I kind of pride myself on being real, kinda imposing my will on the receivers or running backs if I have the chance,” Jackson said. “I feel those activities through the length of this game can kind of change the game. It can ignite your team or it could bring about turnovers or things like that. Obviously those things can absolutely work in our favor.”
Harris, for you, ended the Broncos’ disappointing 6-10 season in 2018 — both the team’s consecutive playoff miss considering that the Super Bowl 50 win — saying the Broncos had to upgrade on defense.
With the No. 10 pick in the draft and a draft board heavy in defensive talent, Elway will be enticed to draft a defender in the very first round. In Elway’s previous eight years, the Broncos have used five of seven first-round picks on defensive players (in 2012 that they didn’t even decide until the next round and selected defensive end Derek Wolfe).
And Jackson added that defensive players simply want to play Fangio, who’d the Chicago Bears tops in the league in scoring defense and takeaways last season.
“For me, only getting an opportunity to play together with my eyes, be instinctive and react. I don’t even understand a [defensive back] within this team which doesn’t even wish to take these types of defenses where they’re able to kind of watch the temptations, browse, react and make some plays to the ball.”
