Wales midfielder Aaron Ramsey will miss out the opening Euro 2020 qualifier against Slovakia on Sunday after failing to recover from injury.
The 28-year-old Arsenal player was withdrawn from the squad and went back to his club for treatment.
Ramsey did not comprise his country’s 1-0 friendly win over Trinidad and Tobago on Wednesday.
“We’ve plan-B and we’ve worked during the week,” said Wales director Ryan Giggs.
“He had been still in good form but it provides an opportunity for another person.”
Wales have already been boosted with the news that Bournemouth midfielder David Brooks was passed fit after the 21-year-old missed Wednesday’s match with an arm.
Ramsey’s lack could also open an opportunity for Matt Smith, Lee Evans or Will Vaulks play an integral part in Sunday’s game.
Defender Ethan Ampadu and forward Sam Vokes and Tom Lawrence also missed Wednesday’s friendly and are unlikely to feature against Slovakia.
