World number one Novak Djokovic returned to winning ways using a straight-set victory against Australia’s Bernard Tomic to achieve the Miami Open third round.

Serbia’s Djokovic, who lost in the third round at Indian Wells last week, beat Tomic 7-6 (7-2) 6-2.

The 31-year-old is targeting a record seventh title in Miami and faces Argentina’s Federico Delbonis next.

Britain’s Dan Evans plays with Canada’s Denis Shapovalov later on Saturday.

“I’ve had a lot of court time passed between [my] Indian Wells loss in singles and now, tonight’s game,” said 15-time Grand Slam champion Djokovic.

“I’ve done what I need to do the job on. Now it’s just a matter of time and energy to construct the momentum and build which game play.”

Elsewhere, Austria’s Dominic Thiem, who defeat Roger Federer to acquire Indian Wells on Sunday, missing on the’Sunshine Slam’, losing 6-4 64 to Poland’s Hubert Hurkacz.
