Ross County produced a late flurry of goals to come from behind and defeat Welsh unwanted Connah’s Quay Nomads to lift the Challenge Cup for another time.
Two Josh Mullin strikes plus one from Jamie Lindsay in the previous fifteen minutes turned into the game while in the Scottish Championship leaders’ favour.
Even the Welsh Premier League side were wanting to turn into the very first non-Scottish winners of their trophy.
And Michael Bakare’s superb first-half strike gave them hope of an upset.
Nomads, the very first non-Scottish team to make it to the final, broke the deadlock at the home of County’s Highland competitions, Inverness Caledonian Thistle, when striker Bakare’s left-footed drive found the upper corner from just outside the box.
The Welsh side came close when Michael Wilde led wide and Andy Owens almost triple the cause of Nomads if County’s Ross Munro talented the ball to him with a quick pass.
But the goalkeeper redeemed himself with a nice save from the resulting shot.
Bakare came close again on the stroke of halftime if his shot came from the crossbar and was cleared.
County applied huge pressure following the break since their full-time training began to tell against the part timers.
Headers from Michael Gardyne and Kenny van der Weg were retained out by goalkeeper John Danby.
The leveller eventually came courtesy of Mullin’s right-footed campaign from the Marcus Fraser cross and, only three minutes later, the replacement struck again, this time from 18 metres.
Lindsay sealed the victory with a shot from the boundary of the box three minutes from time, even while Ross Stewart came close to making the score emphatic when his campaign hit a pole.
