While he had opportunities at grabbing the win – including in one time leading 49 laps – Elliott’s runner-up finish from the STP 500 was special. It had been his very first top five since his win last autumn at Kansas and the first top five of the year for Hendrick Motorsports.

Since Elliott rode across the track during his cool off lap, team owner Rick Hendrick came over the No. 9 team army and said,”Great job now guys. Amazing job Chase.” Elliott was the sole Chevrolet driver to finish in the Top 10 on Sunday.

Elliott said he felt he had a car good enough at times to pass Keselowski but had only a little bit more to secure the win.

“I strove to move up and root (Keselowski) off the bottom at the beginning of the series and felt like that was my very best shot as I felt as though that I had been a little better than him shooting off (on restarts),” said Elliott. “Then he’s a little better than me through the mid-stage after which we finally evened out. ”

Elliott able to close into about a car length of Keselowski after the last caution of the race lt for example his car was a tick off.

“” I felt like that our cars were pretty close,” Elliott explained. “I thought my car was working a little better than his on the initial five or 10 laps afterward I felt like that was my best opportunity for him. He had been a little better than we or me evened out then and it had been simply a matter of how we hit our marks.

I felt like we were very close to him and at times a little better.

After the previous warning put up 45-lap sprint to the finish, Elliott strove to create some changes in his line to attempt to catch Keselowski.

“I strove to move up (the trail ) and get some runs,” ”” Elliott explained. “I moved up with approximately 5 to proceed and has been making just a small time but clearly not enough time. I was simply attempting to get back to his bumper and presumed I really could root him out of the way.

“It had been going to be quite hard to drive him up and pass on him. I would definitely have to arrive at him play some matches and expect it went my way. ”

Although he didn’t even win the race the the strong encounter was satisfying in giving his team its best finish of the season.

&ldquoWe had a very powerful car and the best shot we had to acquire to date in 2013,” said Elliott. “Therefore whenever you have cars like this (today) you really have to capitalize.

“finding its way back here from the autumn I expect we could run like we did today and a little better and be a part of the bargain to allow it to matter. ”
