“There’s never been more harmful tight ending compared to Gronk, an intimidating presence who’s been an outstanding bark and bark,” explained John McClain, the longtime NFL columnist from the Houston Chronicle who has a Hall of Fame vote. “The Patriots won’t be as much fun to watch . I believe he has a lock to be hunted to the Hall of Fame in his first year of qualification. ”

ESPN’s Sal Paolantonio, that also features a Hall of Fame vote, agrees.

“He needs to be from the first-ballot dialog. He has the numbers, but his big game brilliance and dominance put him apart,” he explained. “We just put Tony Gonzalez in first ballot. Gronk, in my view, was more dominant.”

Those eligible for the Pro Football Hall of Fame will need to have last played at least five seasons until they can be considered, therefore Gronkowski’s first chance will soon arrive from 2024.

Of all the platitudes which were led toward Gronkowski after his announcement Sunday,” Patriots coach Bill Belichick’s comments about his place in the history of this match were notable.

“Rob will definitely leave the match as among the very best, most complete players in his position to ever playwith, ” said Belichick, that enters his 45th NFL season in 20-19.

The important phrases are”most complete,” since Belichick has coveted the”combination” tight end who is just as effective as a lubricant and pass-catcher. His golden standard at the positioning has been Mark Bavaro, who starred with the nyc Giants out of 1985-90. Bavaro wowed Belichick with his ability to line up against greats such as Hall of Famer Reggie White and hold his own as a blocker, while also controlling the interior area of the field for a pass-catcher.

So when Belichick had said Gronkowski alongside Bavaro in recent years due to his double impact, he couldn’t have delivered much higher gloss.

Belichick’s point has long been if your tight wind doesn’t block well, he’s really more of a major recipient. Of course if a tight end has limited impact from the passing game, he’s a glorified offensive lineman.

But a real complete tight end?

That kind of player helps create mismatches which can be impossible to shield, and the 6-foot-6, 268-pound Gronkowski surpassed the match because area. Some of the lasting pictures of Gronkowski will soon be him rumbling toward the endzone with many defenders hanging on for the ride — a perfect photo of his infrequent mix of size, ability and athleticism.

For whether he winds up as a first-ballot Hall of Famer, the amount of his career figures to be part of this conversation. He turns 30 in May. Based on Elias, Jim Brown and Gale Sayers will be the only Hall of Famers chosen in their initial year of qualification to prevent play a NFL match in their 30s.

That’s superb organization to keep.
