WASHINGTON — President Donaldtrump welcomed the reigning NHL winner Washington Capitals into the Oval Office at the White House on Monday to congratulate them for winning the Stanley Cup in June.

Trump said it was an honor to possess the team because he is a baseball fan and a Capitals fan. The president predicted the Capitals”winners” and said there’s”an awfully good chance” they’ll win this season.

Players, coaches and personnel obtained an exclusive tour of the White House and met with Trump in that which was a last opportunity to be about baseball’s sacred trophy as defending champions.

Two players on the existing roster, Canadians Braden Holtby and Brett Connolly, and Devante Smith-Pelly, who’s in the minors, said they wouldn’t attend.

The Capitals’ White House trip came nine-plus weeks after their initial title in franchise record and also with six games left in the regular season before the playoffs begin.
