Glenn Solberg to Shoot over Sweden after EHF EURO 2020
Former Norway international Glenn Solberg is going to dominate as coach Sweden’s ’s national team in the spring of 20 20.
The 47-year-old Solberg is substituting Kristján Andrésson, who, on his turn, is taking over from Danish national team coach Nikolaj Jacobsen at Rhein-Neckar Löwen in Germany.
Andrésson is likely to soon be combing both endeavors before the EHF EURO 20 20, when he will leave the playoff group completely to Solberg, who will be concerned already from September.
“it’s a great sensation, and that I am very pleased to be going to be responsible of such a fantastic team. I was extremely happy only to be a candidate to get the project,” says Solberg, who played 112 internationals being a centre for Norway.
“Aim is to maintain the Global top constantly ”
The team got a top-10 effect at every major championship since 2014.
“Sweden come in the top and play a really fine way of handball, which has made it great fun to trace along with. With a lot of great players, it’s clear that the purpose is usually always to be in the international top constantly,” Solberg states.
“It’s tight at the international shirt with many great teams, therefore things change from championship to championship, but Sweden are a team that ought to be the very best,” includes Solberg, who’s currently head coach at Norwegian league team St. Halvard and parttime coach at German winners SG Flensburg-Handewitt.
High expectations out of federation
“Kristján Andrésson and (assistant coach) Martin Boquist have done a great job these last years and have taken Sweden straight back to the top of the world. We feel that Glenn Solberg with Martin (Boquist) could form the national team further towards our vision of having a national team of world class,” says Robert Wedberg, the federation’s overall secretary.
“we’ve been working hard to find the ideal individual, also we all have been sure to have accomplished that by simply enrolling Glenn, with a good foundation with experience from top degree as a player as well as as a coach,” Wedberg states.
Solberg has signed a four-year contract
His first competitive matches will be the Olympic eligibility suits, which Sweden might need to play in April 20 20 unless they win against the EHF EURO 20 20, a championship they are co-hosting together with Norway and Austria.
That is likely to soon be Andrésson’s tournament in charge. Apparently, the Icelandic coach will also lead Sweden in next month’s derbies against Norway at the EHF EURO Cup on 11 and 13 April.
