NEW ORLEANS — The New Orleans Pelicans say shield Jrue Holiday has received surgery to repair a heart muscle injury and will not play again this season.

The Pelicans say Holiday had the procedure done in Philadelphia on Tuesday from Dr. William Meyers, who’s called a sports hernia specialist.

The team claims that the normal schedule for healing is still all about six weeks, which could take Holiday beyond the close of the regular season.

Holiday already has missed the previous eight matches with a strained tummy for the Pelicans, who are eliminated from playoff contention.

This season has been among Holiday’s most useful.
