NEWS: Less than 10 months beforehand of Men’s EHF EURO 2020, co host Austria have termed a new head trainer. Ales Pajovic will take over the staff with immediate effect
Ales Pajovic becomes new Austria head coach
The Handball Federation has called a successor for longtime head trainer Patrekur Johannesson, whose contract has been terminated at the beginning of March.
It had been announced on Thursday, that three-time EHF Champions League winner and prior Slovenian international (181 matches), Ales Pajovic, gets control and will lead the team at the coming EHF EURO Cup at which Austria face EHF EURO 2018 winners, Spain, on 11 and 14 April.
The change at the national team’s helm comes less than 10 weeks out of Men’s EHF EURO 2020 which Austria cohosts together with Sweden and Norway from 9 to 26 January third year. Patrekur Johannesson have been training Austria for nearly eight decades.
40-year-old Pajovic currently coaches Graz at the national league. With Spanish side Ciudad Real he won the EHF Champions League in 2006, 2008 and 2009.
