Getting in to 2018 off his first career loss to close out 20 17, bantamweight prospect Armando Villarreal knew he will have to help make the most of his opportunity when he had been offered to join the LFA.
In just 2 fights with the promotion this past year, Villarreal managed to get back on course with just two straight handed decision victories.
“I struggled a tough guy in Thomas Blair in Virginia (in LFA 49) and also grappled with him all three rounds and chose,” Villarreal told MMAWeekly.com. “I had been hoping to reveal more striking in that struggle, but I had a knee injury out the week and it kind of changed the plan.
“The struggle then was October (in LFA 52) against Jose Johnson plus it ended up being hit of the Night. It turned out to be a tough struggle. It had been a straight back and forth grappling match. The fans loved it, and I presume (LFA commentator) Pat Miletich loved it too. I presumed I contained him all through the struggle. ”
Villarreal credits a change in team with helping him get back on course after his lone loss in 20 17.
“I had been lacking lots of wrestling; especially in my takedown defense.
“I finished up shifting camps about one year ago and started training in Blitz MMA, and they helped me come up with my magnificent, my takedowns, my wrestling along with Jiu-Jitsu. Our wrestling coach was helping mix the wrestling into our impressive and MMA, and I think it’s been a phenomenal improvement to our match. ”
This Friday in LFA 63 in Belton, Texas, Villarreal (4-1) can look to grab his third straight victory when he encounters Devin Miller (5-1) in a 135-pound major card bout.
“A number of his battles have come from entry and what not, but I don’t even think he’s got the magnificent grade of my last competitor, so I might decide to make an effort to standup a little bit longer and work my own magnificent,” Villarreal said of Miller. ”
Should he get his third win for that LFA on Friday nighthe’ll begin to look towards carrying a measure to another level before 2019 is out.
“2019 I intend on making it my own entire year. We would like to attempt to acquire at least two or three more fights coming up this past year,” said Villarreal. “I’d love to put in to name contention or if a bigger promotion comes calling we hope this year is year. ”
