Michelle Waterson may create a powerful statement having a third consecutive win this Saturday in the UFC’s competitive strawweight division.
Waterson and also Kowalkiewicz match on the main card of UFC on ESPN 2 in Wells Fargo Center in Philadelphia this Saturday in a matchup that could keep one competition in the title picture and send the back into the drawing board.
Speaking to MMA Fighting, Waterson was asked when she considered Kowalkiewicz to be among the best strikers that she’s faced centered on what she’s seen of this Polish star’s beyond performances against titles like Joanna Jedrzejczyk and Rose Namajunas.
“I would certainly say so,” Waterson said. “She went five rounds with Joanna and that she overcome Rose. If you ask me that says that she has really a good MMA game. ”
Outside and inside the cage, Waterson includes a excellent deal of esteem for Kowalkiewicz. Last July, she shared with an image on societal networking of herself with Kowalkiewicz and future UFC flyweight champion Valentina Shevchenko.
Considering that the success theyrsquo;ve had in the UFC, it was just a question of time before they crossed paths in the Octagon.
“” I feel as if at this time when people were asking me interviews and stuff, I was asking for her because she’s a worthy opponent,” Waterson said. “She’s one of the most well-rounded girls in the top-10 of this division and someone who has fought everybody, and it contains fought them good. So I presumed that it would be a fantastic challenge for me and also a way for me to receive my name up and above the rankings where I want them.
“But that doesn’t mean that I dislike . I’t satisfied her when I was actually the champ for Invicta and she was very sweet afterward. Even struggle week, I watched her coming , signing up, and gave her a kiss. I struggle because it disturbs me and it gets me grow as a person, not because I do need to inflict pain on different folks. ”
A win on Saturday is key into Waterson’s goal of becoming the first fighter to give birth and go on to win a UFC championship.
Waterson wants to establish that when it involves being a mommy and being an elite UFC fighter, then ” she doesn’t need to prioritize one over the other.
“But then it just doubled because we now have children. Just the comprehension to be a mother and everything that entails and how much it really is a part of your life no matter what. Simply learning how to balance exactly what is needed to be a mommy, fully present, and also at the top of your game in a MMA career.
“It’SA tough matter to balance and I presume that easily could grow to be the champ, then that would definitely be something that I could be proud of and hold up my head high for the remainder of my entire life. ”
It’s anyone ’s guess if Waterson is next for a title shot if she see through Kowalkiewicz in UFC on ESPN 2. But she’s awaiting the opportunities that’ll include becoming the No. 1 competition and possibly the champion of this division.
Waterson, who is of Thai descent, has never fought outside the USA, and she’d love to have a trip to Asia for a championship bout — she’d like to be the one walking in with a UFC belt around her waist in that scenario.
“This might be amazing,” Waterson said. “the only real issue is when I’m fighting to get the belt, so I’d love to be in a position to have my loved by and I presume Asia may be too much of a go to have everybody turn outside.
“So maybe after I win. ”
