La Rioja secure second triumph of this year
Despite being eliminated from the competition, Spanish side La Rioja won a second match this season from the Group Phase. Because of the loss, Saint-Raphaël can now only finish second in Group A but have secured a ticket into the quarterfinals.

The home started in a better fashion, having its defence proving to be efficient to avoid Saint-Raphaël’s fast attacks. Except for Alexandru Simicu, last season ’s finalists were struggling to discover methods to score goals.
Miguel Sanchez Migallon failed to experiencing the same trouble, also scored three in the first 10 minutes, helping his team shoot a three-goal advantage after 2-4 minutes (13:10).
Despite being already qualified, the visitors may still expect for its first spot of their team, and quickly got back on the right course, being only down by one at the rest.
They even did better than when coming straight back on the court, shortly taking the lead by one goal after one of Raphaël Caucheteux’s fastbreaks.
But that didn’t last long , in the very long term, La Rioja kept finding solutions . Adrien Dipanda, particularly, had been fighting, and with their captain on a bad day, the French club could not take the top hand.
Just eight minutes before the close of the match, the hosts had been up with a two-goal advantage and managed to maintain all of the way until the ending, despite missing their last 2 shots.
